Festival sur le Nigerby Günther Eichhorn |

The Festival sur le Niger in Ségou is an annual music festival that has become very well known world-wide. This year was the 6th edition of this festival. The festival runs for four days.
The festival has several stages with music and dance performances. In the evenings are the main concerts on the main stage. I went to the main event on Thursday, 4 February. I was somewhat disappointed, the performances were average, nothing really great. On both Thursday and Friday I watches several performances on the smaller stages during the day. They were much more entertaining than the big evening festival.
Admission was a bit expensive, € 100 ($150) for all four days, € 40 ($60) for Friday and Saturday, € 20 ($30) for Thursday and Sunday. Admission is checked only in the afternoon, just before the main events, so you can see many of the smaller shows without paying admission. I paid on Thursday, but since the evening performance was so disappointing, I didn't pay admission for Friday, and only watched some of the day show. These were actually very good on Friday, I enjoyed them very much.
It certainly was worth visiting the festival. I hope that the other evening performances were better than the first one on Thursday.
